The weekend of beginning Christmas Season (pt 1)

Yesterday was so much fun. It was part 1 in my weekend of decorating for Christmas!

DH and I took a bit of a drive north, where we found some amazing Christmas trees in a "cut down your own" fashion. We hiked up some hills until we saw the Christmas trees that we had in mind - tall and wide!
The tree farm:
The patch of trees we chose from (most are 10 - 15 feet tall!)
Once we reached this field, it started snowing!

We found our tree! DH is sawing it down.

This was the tree hauled on a sled. We got a lot of comments on the way down from the field! Many people stopped to say how beautiful of a tree it was. It sure is big!

At the tree place, they would put the tree through a machine to wrap it up and then they'd drill a hole through the tree's center of gravity for the big trees. We bought a pin stand - the whole tree just sits on the stand with the pin inside it.

This is them drilling:

After we struggled for a while to put it up while still stringed, we cut it lose and were shocked at how big it expanded! We both agreed that it must have grew in the truck, because it definitely didn't look quite this big on that hill!

It's hard to tell just how big it is unless you're standing in the room and it takes up so much presense! It's gonna be quite the adventure to decorate the whole thing!

Here are some other things I decorated last night (ignore all of the boxes and things laying around - it was around midnight when we finished with the tree and moved onto the rest of the house)

This is the staircase. The garland has little silver angels around it. Where the bow is, will be replaced by four stockings (Dh's, mine, Sophie's and one for baby) when we go buy them today.

 The top of our piano:

Our ceiling fan. It usually has little diamond cuts hanging from it, but I replaced two with clear glass angels.

That's all I got done yesterday. Today we'll be decorating the tree and getting some things for our porch. I really love the Christmas season!

I also found that my morning sickness is helped a lot by having the tree in the house. It now smells wonderfully like Christmas time instead of lots of strange or unpleasant (thanks to our pup Sophie)smells. I'm no longer gagging from room to room, because the whole house smells the same. I actually asked DH if we could grow one in the house all year round. I'm quite desperate to limit my sickness in any way!

  1. What a tree!!!! How big is it? We ended up with a 8-footer, but lost a about 6 inches off the top in order to fit the angel. We have one of the old fashioned stands with the four screws, but since it took us an hour to get it straight and in the corner, we're gonna be looking for one of the ones with the pin on clearance after Christmas (my MIL took 2 minutes to get her tree up, and it's bigger than ours).

  2. It's a little over 10 feet. Our ceiling is about 9 feet. We were planning on cutting it back a little, but we're afraid that the drill didn't go up far enough to cut off. So we're debating on just keeping it as it is - and perhaps doing something Dr. Suess like - where the tree top is on the ceiling and so is the tree topper...or maybe we'll wait to top the tree this year. lol. My father-in-law owns a drill that could do it, but then we have to take the whole thing down and not decorate it...I just want it decorated the way it is! I still haven't put the fake tree up in the attic living room yet, and that one we have a tree topper, lights, etc for. Our skirt we have doesn't cover even 1/4 of the tree! It's so big.

The pin stands definitely are great. It's the only one we'll be using for our good tree from now on. We just plopped it on and within seconds, it was secured. Then we just cut the string of the tree and we were done. We got one for trees up to 12 feet tall. It was about 30$, but it's a really good one and it's suitable for any tree now.
