Katieness

I read about how Katie is supposed to be going from vowel sounds to incorporating condo stew I to her vocabulary now. I first noticed this happening yesterday when I actually paid attention tO her crazy noises and listened to what she was able to say. She does have condo area working in there, mainly G, N and W so far, but it's really interesting to hear what she's learned. Before it was all ooooo ehhhh ahhhh and now she's working on building words and shaping her mouth to say these things. She also smiles when I say her name or when she hears it in a song I'm singing.

Unfortunately, she's becoming more mobile! I enjoy her little blob self, but apparently that doesn't satisfy her. She can plant her feet and arch her legs, back and shoulders a few inches off the floor, she can lift her head, neck and shoulders off the floor, and she can roll a bit. The rolling is what scares me!

I'm planning on making her a tag blanket when I can get to Walmart next. I found a cute pink fleece pattern and Beauty and the beast ribbon there last time. I think she's at an age that she'll begin enjoying taggie things. There's so much that I need to get though! I have to find like 20lbs of poly pellets that won't cost me a fortune. Most places have 1lb for 6.50$! Joanns is supposed to have them for a little over a dollar but I never get down that way. I'm eager to experiment with making weighted blankets, especially bc the blankets I'm using for it are soo soft!

At the worst time of the year, Bill's work is shutting down all overtime for the month. Of course, when we need to go buy a tree, a tree topper and Christmas gifts they cut off our extra money! We'll be doing lots of budgeting and skimping over the next month so we can still get our Christmas stuff. At least it means Bill will be home for the best month of the year!

I have to keep putting all of my favorite Katie clothing away as she's growing out of them in rapid speed. One of my favorite sleepers is being used for the last time on her today as its too small now. I got out all of her clothes from 9-12m for her to wear. The smallest she can wear now is 6-9m.

Katie's nursery is getting delightfully pinker. I look at it and wonder what I would have done if my first born had been a boy (probably would have needed lots of therapy later! Lol) I adore all the girly stuff! I can't wait until after Christmas, when she'll have even more pink and girl things to add. Or when we convert our hobby room into Katie's toddler room. I already have the whole thing mapped out.

I so wanted to have a name for the next baby girl before getting pregnant, but it doesn't look like I will. Im totally stuck on one name, and it's a name Bill hates. We do, however have a first name for if we have a third girl (as I'm determined to not use it until then) but that doesn't help us now. Lol. I keep coming up with reasons why my name makes so much sense as our next daughter, but he isn't sold yet. Sometimes I think I see him wavering, but he also has good comebacks as well! Oh well, we'll figure something out eventually...right?

Boys will probably be easier to name.

Sleep? What sleep?

Katie's refusing to sleep still and it's driving me nuts! I heard someone say that there's such a thing as WW19 - what someone jokingly said the ww stands for World War. If I remember correctly, it means Worst Weeks for babies, and one of the biggest ones is week 19. Which
I think Katie is (yes, I'm a terrible mom - I lost track of exactly how old my daughter is!)so I suppose that explains the fact that she hasn't napped in days! She falls asleep and whether I lay with her or not, she is awake, literally, within five minutes. She falls asleep usually twice a day and those 1-4 minutes of sleep she gets are quite the power booster apparently. She does, however, sleep all night (I assume from pure exhaustion!) she fights sleep until she's delirious, falls asleep at 1 am and sleeps mostly until 9. Then she wakes up, nurses and falls back to sleep until 10-11. (she also wakes to nurse during the night, it's not a straight sleep, but I can snooze through those at least!) It's almost like she refuses to sleep unless Bill is home. She'll sleep while he's here perfectly. Then he leaves for work and she fights me whenever I try to get her down. Once he comes home at midnight, she laughs that he's here and plays with him for a few minutes, then goes to sleep! Like all she wants is to see her daddy before going to sleep. Apparently this child isn't happy with just a stay at home mommy, she wants both parents home all the time! Lol

All the babies around her age are going through this currently, according to their moms. Lots of sleeplessness, crankiness and frustration. I do hope she grows out of it soon, the house is suffering and the one time of the year that I need it clean is around the major holidays! I'm cracking out the Christmas stuff next weekend!

Katie even hates the sight of the bed now. Where before she'd cry to go to bed to take her naps, now when she sees it she cries bc she knows what it means and she doesn't want to try napping! She just wants to play, even when her eyes are bloodshot and barely staying open.

On the other hand, all of these crying fits she's having about going to sleep has let me see that her eye ducts have developed - she now cries real tears! It makes her sadness all the worst to see actual tears coming out. Can't help bit to cuddle her to make them go away!

I have no idea if this is determined so early, but she serms to be right handed. She picks up everything with her right hand, and she's always practicing opening and closing with that hand more than the other.

Katie's tooth is so close to the surface that I keep thinking its finally popped out but not quite. She does lots of tongue chewing and choking on excess drool lately. Every hour she starts having a choking problem with her drool, and it scares me every time!

Currently Katie has her eyes closed, but she's not going down without a fight! She's too tired to keep them open, but she keeps kicking and throwing her hands up and letting out little whines. Even cuddling her doesn't help (I just get kicked harder!) I guess im going to try singing her to sleep. Pictures to follow later.

Katie's likes and dislikes!

Poor Katie. She's sick, teething and battling shots all at the same time. She was throwing up and coughing yesterday, today she's just miserable. She also gags herself with her fingers when she tries to reach her (probable sore) throat and doesn't want to nurse. Naps seem to be the enemy right now, maybe because for two days she bad 3-5 hour naps in the day and then slept all night. Her body is going through a lot! After screaming for hours with nothing that would calm her down, she just slept for maybe ten minutes. She's much happier now, though I had hoped to use her nap time for cleaning...or even a nap for myself!

Its crazy how much of a personality she has now. She has lots of likes and dislikes, things she demands and wants to do and things she refuses. At only four months old, she's such a little person!

Katie's favorite things:

Her best friend is Sophie
Her favorite toy is her seahorse (who has accidentally been named Sunflower after I had too many nights of not enough sleep and kept saying "give me the sunflower!" to Bill until he finally guessed I meant seahorse!)
Her favorite shows are Blues Clues and the nick jr Face commercials.
Her favorite activities are singing, being sung to, and dancing.

Her likes:
She likes car rides - as long as they're not too long!
Being walked
Going on walks in her stroller where she can she Sophie in front of her
The flower mirror toy on her exersaucer - it has a big smile on it and it makes her ways smile in return!
Cuddles and/or snuggles
Music
Other kids/babies
Clean diapers
Swings
Mirrors

Katie dislikes:
Naps
Boredom
Me baking
Laying still
When mommy does chores
Pacifiers

She hates:
Being constrained
Swaddled
SHOTS
Getting dressed
Not getting attention
Teething
Tummy time

4 month check up

It's getting harder and harder to wake myself, Katie and bill up so early in the morning. Today was Katie's check up, which meant a 7:15 am wake up to get everyone ready and out the door to get there by 9. I was so worried we'd be late - turns out it didn't matter bc even though we had an appointment card saying today was our check up date, thy had never entered it into their computers so we weren't scheduled. My heart fell - the only thing worse than having to wake up early to get Katie shots is having to do it twice! I've already worried myself sick for two weeks about these shots. Thankfully Katie's doctor was called and she said that she'd fit her in anyway.

Katie's stats are now 17lbs, 9oz in weight, just over 26 inches long, and she's perfectly healthy. My doctor said that we were doing everything perfectly and we have the same ideas about how to raise babies, which is rare. Exclusively breastfeeding, delayed vax and delayed start on baby foods to avoid Open Gut, and she likes how well informed we are about everything. When we first met her, she said that she'd go along with our requests as long as we proved to her that we knew what we were saying, instead of just demanding things we didn't really understand. Thankfully I do tons of research and read everything, and then thoroughly explain it to Bill and have him read the books too, so when she asks us "why?" about certain things, we have prepared educated answers. In return, she's been very easy to work with and gives us no problems on anything we choose to do with Katie. In fact, she approves.

I spoke to her about what had happened last time Katie got shots and she was appalled. She wrote all over Katie's chart that she is to be consulted before anything happens with Katie, and if I have any questions for her, they must page her before continuing, even if she's out of the office they have to call her. That made me feel a lot better! She said what they did last time was absolutely wrong and if I ever have to take Katie for a nurse's visit again where they're doing things I don't approve of, I should make them call her and refuse treatment until they do. She definitely won some bonus points with that, I'm glad she's looking out for Katie and is willing to put such effort into her care.

Katie did worse with the shots today. She got bright red and screamed so much. Last time I cried, this time I managed to only feel horrible guilt on the inside. She refused to nurse, or listen to anything calming. Finally Bill got her calm, and then while we were wrestling with reception she started to cry again, but this time Blue's Clues was able to cure her.

We came home to what I'm thinking probably won't be but was meant to be Katie's last Christmas gift. It's a Minnie mouse pink blanket with her name embroidered on it. I bought it on sale - cheap enough that I even thought of getting one for Sophie, as Sophie loves blankets and pillows of her own. I'd love to get Katie a Disney snowglobe yet, as I'd love to get one for her each year but I may need to wait to start it next year. So far she has a Winnie the Pooh snowglobe, and my Beauty and the Beast snowglobe.

As I'm on mobile again, pictures will come tomorrow.

Pic Post!

I don't have time for an actual blog post ATM, but I finally got pictures downloaded onto Bill's computer (as mine is currently dead) so I'm going to play catch up with a picture post:

4 Months!

Katie is officially 4 months old today! It's amazing that it's been 4 months. On one hand, I can't believe she's only been here for suh a short amount of time. It seems like I've known her forever, she's become so ingrained with my own identity. On the other hand, there's still a time of every day that I look over at her and think "holy crap, I have a baby! I'm a MOMMY! Woah!" (that's usually followed by a giant cuddle session where I sing "you're my baby!" over and over and she giggles like crazy. I still wake up multiple times a night and hold my own breath just to make sure that she's still breathing normally. She seems so brand new and so old already at the same time. It terrifies me that she's growing up so fast, I would keep her a baby forever if I could. With my imaginary third hand, I'd like to point out that my little beauty still has blue eyes, and they're such a pretty color. She's so wide eyed that it makes my heart melt every time she looks up at me. She looks at me in a totally different way than everyone else and I adore that look. She doesn't have to try to figure me out, she just gives me a glance once in a while to reassure I'm still with her, and smiles like she feels secure and happy that i am. I love this curly haired little girl of mine. It's still so surprising that she exists and even more, that she belongs to me!

Katie is loving her exersaucer. I put her in it for the first time last Saturday. She loves the smiling face flower toys, the mirrors, and the things she's able to lick and chew on. She's able to sit up fine for about 10 minutes but after that she starts to wobble so we're working up to it. It took me about 3 hours of bleaching, soaking and scrubbing out that entirely pink and girly saucer I bought her while pregnant. If I didn't think she'd like it so much I probably would have trashed it instead of spending all the time on it (I only paid $5 for it, along with the full line of toy attachments). It's nice to have a substitute for the swing, as that's starting to bore her.

Katie looks like such a big kid in the new pjs I bought her there pink and Disney princesses and it makes her look like a little toddler! I'm planning on pickin her up a fee more pairs in Tink and Minnie as they're just so cute.

My goal is to start getting Katie to sleep without nursing her down, and then be able to get up and leave her. I do this for naps, though it's not going well. She seems to be throwing a napping strike. Two days ago she fell asleep twice, both for under five minutes and that was it for the day! She finally slept at midnight, but woke up shortly after for two hours. You'd think she'd HAVE to sleep all day the next day but nope. Just one short nap (she fell asleep to me rubbing her belly and singing to her) and then an hour one at 9:30 PM. She did sleep well last night though. I'm hoping for more naps today, as we both woke up early to go shopping this morning (I had to comb two different stores searching for crazy things like almond paste, wheat pastry flour and Dutch processed unsweetened cocoa.)

Katie loves Sophie now. Have I mentioned that before? She giggles like crazy whenever Sophie comes near. Sophie really has no interest in her right now (she's not a big baby dog, unless there's food in her little hands - she'll have plenty of interest then!) but when she even just sits in front of the exersaucer, Katie goes nuts. Theyll be some crazy partners in crime, ganging up against me later.

Katie gets her second round of shots on Monday. I'm dreading it!
