It's All A Race

In two weeks, it'll be the first time we are TTC and be on time (last month we were two days past O when we decided to begin TTC.) Looking forward to those two weeks, which also coinsides with our one year anniversary and going back to the place we began officially dating the day before, I've been watching some interesting videos.

On youtube, I found The Great Sperm Race. It's a fascinating documentary that makes the anology of what sperm has to go through with how it would compare if sperm were human sized. It talks to doctors and scientists who have plenty of good information delivered in a fun way. It also shows how the sperm warzone that is the female body goes through a process of elimination with natural selection for the sperm, and what happens when the sperm have defects like two heads or split tails. Each part is about ten minutes long.

I've also gone a bit yarn crazy. When I was at the store yesterday, I saw these ultra soft baby yarn bundles. I grabbed four (pink, blue, green and yellow) to make a patchwork baby blanket out of, and also to practice crochet since I'm more of a knitter. When I got home, the majority of the day was then spent of learning to crochet baby flowers and knitting a pink 40 by 40 stitch patch for the blanket. I'd like to get a yarn needle next to embroider on the finished patches and sew them together.

As my husband pointed out, I don't need to do so much knitting right now, since I'll have 9 months to do it later, but it's an unquenchable compulsion. I want to learn and to practice so that when I do have those 9 months, I can spend it by knitting/crocheting beautiful things for our baby, instead of wholly disfigured ones.

Our Nursery

I thought I'd share some pictures of our nursery as it looks so far. All that needs to happen is to actually hang the pictures we have, the shelves, and to move a crib and changing table into the room and we're all set!

It's blue, since the owners before us had two little boys. I love how it looks so I don't want to change it, and figured I'd just add some girlier teddy bears to girl it up a bit. I was more tom boy growing up, so maybe we won't have to worry about 'pink' things anyway!

Who I am...

Hello readers!

This is my first month TTC (trying to conceive) with our first baby. I'm  a 22 year old education major at Penn State University/ budding novelist and have been married to my husband for six months now. We have a Bernese Mountain puppy Sophie, who is currently 4 months old.

Some backround about me:  I found out that I was in the early stages of Ovarian Cancer when I was 19. I was alerted fast enough to this by a large, 7 pound tumor that was resting on my organs and was covered in precancer cells. It took my ovary and my appendix, but everything else is in working order. =) The doctors gave me until I am 30 years old to have children before they give me a hysterecomy to ensure a cancer free life from here on out.

Though I still have a capable ovary and all the other parts are working fine, we aren't sure if the medical history has left any fertility problems. We have our fingers crossed that everything is okay and that our TTC period will be a short one!

My husband and I have both always dreamed of having a large family. Ever since I can remember, I couldn't wait to be a mom and have a bunch of kids of my own. I came from a family of six children, and he came from a family of four children. When we met, we had a lowered goal to have four children, but now it looks like we won't be able to make even that. With less than eight years and counting left of my baby making years, we need to get cracking! Thankfully, my husband has a good job that allows us to financially be able to handle a baby now, even after buying a house only about a month or so ago, so we're able to begin trying to have as many children as we're able.

Our house came with a nursery that was decorated in blue with teddy bear pictures in the border. Since moving in, the nursery is the one room that is almost fully furnished and decorated! It's the room that holds a lot of hope and anxious waiting for me, so I love getting it ready.

This is about our journey in expanding our family.
